My first blog post….

7

Hi gang,

I’ve blogged before but this is my maiden blog post on this very site…. oooo laa laa. Time to run, hide, and get ready for some rants!

Anyway I have so much work to do and am procrastinating at the moment. I’m preparing to give a lecture at NYU about rock and pop songwriting. I’m going to try to videotape it and post it on here if anyone is interested in watching a talk about how to go from zero to hero… I joke. I’ll discuss a little about the history of songwriting, basic song structures, the hook, and some personal tips I use in my own writing.  Hopefully, I can coax other songwriters to share theirs too because everyone writes differently and one person’s method is not superior to another. But please let me know if there are any specific questions and I’ll be sure to answer them and post the video.

Later gators,

I’m not a songwriter but I’d love to hear how you and other songwriters do it

Cant wait to see this video, I’d like to know how you go about writing songs, what comes first in each song and what thoughts go into writing lyrics, are they personal things that have happened to you or just random thoughts and ideas.
I’d also like to know how to get out of the habbit of writing “sad and slow” songs
    thanks

first off,, THANK YOU so much for doing something like this. i’ve been stuck on the road for awhile, and would love to develop some knowledge on lyric inspiration and construction, vocal melodies, and song structure. i literally don’t know where to start, and end up having too many ideas coming at me at once, so i just dabble on the guitar playing riffs and rhythms that don’t go anywhere. it’s like i went out and bought groceries, and then just threw them in the trash when i pulled in to the garage, such a waste. i’m so pumped the band is back in action! thanks mil.

ooh! also could you elaborate on effectively conveying your lyrics in a creative way. a lot of the things i write i don’t connect with, and i feel like i should be into them 100% like i’m listening to one of my favorite records. how do you feel about the lyrics you write after they’re completed in relation to music you listen to? do you get tired of them, do you want to keep changing them around? these habits are hard to get over, and i just get stuck in the whole writer’s block category. looking forward to the video : ) : ) :)
